Lafayette Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at Bison Sprint Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore Liz Helwig's first-place finish in the 100 IM highlighted Lafayette's performance at the Bison Sprint Invitational at Bucknell University on Saturday. Helwig hit the wall in 1:01.76, fastest of the 48 competitors in the event. No team scores were kept in the meet. Helwig later teamed with freshman Julie Sauer for a two-three finish in the 50 fly. Helwig took second in 27.18 seconds, while Sauer tied for third with Bucknell's Mary Krakowski. Both finished in 27.35. Sauer also added a fourth place in the 50 back. On the men's side, Greg Van Volkenburg finished third in the 100 back, while freshman J.B. Worster turned in a fourth-place finish in the 50 back. The men's 200 free relay and 200 medley relay teams both took third. Worster and Van Volkenburg joined Jakub Pritz and Stephen Connlain on both relays. Lafayette's women's 200 free relay team of Helwig, Katherine Kaczka, Liz Geary and Erin Rosensteel added a fourth-place finish. The Lafayette swimmers and divers are back in action Nov. 19, hosting Lehigh at 7 p.m. in Ruef Natatorium.
