SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Lafayette swimming and diving teams resumed action today, as the Leopards traveled to South Orange, N.J. to take part in the Seton Hall quad match. The Lafayette women swept the meet, racking up a 3-0 day, while the men battled through a 0-3 day, including a close loss to Georgetown.

The 400 yard medley opened the day for the Leopard women as seniors Liz Geary and Katie Kaczka, along with sophomore Kristen Tyler and freshman Maricate Conlon grabbed a 3:58.86 victory for the Maroon and White.

Sophomore Hilary White continued the Lafayette scoring in the 200 freestyle with a strong second place showing (1:57.21). Senior Lindsay Grimes turned in a fifth place performance (1:59.84) to give the Leopards two of the top five spots in the event.

A third-fourth-fifth place showing in the 100 yard backstroke highlighted the seventh event of the afternoon, as seniors Julie Sauer (third, 1:01.52) and Shelby Grabowski (fifth, 1:02.23) were joined by Conlon at 1:02.07.

Geary continued with a victory in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.59. Later, she grabbed her second win of the afternoon in the 200 backstroke (2:09.53), and teamed with Conlon who registered a third place finish at 2:12.68. Sophomore Barbara Pennington rounded out the top-five with a fifth place performance (1:11.15)

A Tyler victory in the 200 butterfly (2:10.12) was followed by a top-three sweep in the 50 freestyle. Junior Marcella Nehrbass notched her first victory of the season with a 24.62 time, followed by teammates White (24.83) and Kaczka (24.92).
 

 

Nehrbass and Kaczka resumed their busy days with a one-two finish in the 100 freestyle. Nehrbass timed in a 53.34, closing followed by her senior teammate Kaczka (54.02).

Third place finishes from Laura Jordan (2:30.71) and Tyler (5:18.94) came in the 200 breaststroke and 500 freestyle, respectively. Kerry Nichols notched a second place showing in the 100 butterfly, touching in just under the one-minute mark at 59.38.

The 4x400 freestyle team (Nehrbass, Nichols, White and Kaczka) finished the Leopard sweep with a win at 3:36.89 to give Lafayette the unblemished 3-0 day.

The men received strong performances from Brendan Lawson and JB Worster. Lawson tallied a fourth place time in the 50 freestyle (22.40) and was immediately followed by Worster in fifth (22.86).

The diving combo of sophomore Kevin Oswalt and Brian Cronise tallied a one-two finish on the three-meter board, as Oswalt paced a 260.90 point score with Cronise falling in just behind at 254.30.The duo also took home a second and fourth place showing on the one-meter board later in the day. Cronise tallied a 243.15 mark to finish runner-up in the event, while Oswalt's 219.05 was good enough for fourth.

The Leopards return to action next Saturday to take part in the second quad match in as many weeks. Lafayette will battle Patriot League foes Bucknell and American, along with host Navy beginning at 12 p.m.
