Leopards Gear Up for Patriot League Championships With Colgate and Navy Invites

HAMILTON, N.Y. - With Patriot League championships looming three weeks away, the Lafayette swimming and diving teams traveled to the Navy Invitational and Colgate meet on Saturday afternoon. For the third time in as many weeks, the three meter diving record was broken, as Kevin Oswalt regained the top spot from teammate Brian Cronise.
At Colgate, the Leopard women got things kickstarted from the beginning. The 200 yard medley relay team (Shelby Grabowski, Liz Geary, Kristen Tyler and Katie Kaczka) opened the meet with a 1:49.58 win. Tyler later grabbed of an individual second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing at 29.82, less than a second off the victorious pace.
The men's 200 medley foursome (Josh Hollinger, Brendan Lawson, Steve Rubino and John Jenkins) followed with an impressive runner-up showing of their own, touching in just a second behind Army at 1:39.05.
Lafayette continued its early dominance of the meet, as Jenn Nunn (17:56.82) coasted to a victory in the 1650 yard freestyle. Nunn was followed by Paige Hulsizer, who grabbed second place with a 18:10.36 finish.
Kaczka the strong sprinting performances from the Leopards, notching a win in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.41.
Jenkins was especially impressive on the afternoon, notching a win in the 100 yard freestyle (48.17), as well as a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.13).
JB Worster (54.88) continued the men's solid performance in the eighth event with a runner-up time of his own in the 100 yard backstroke.
The Leopards now shift their focus to Patriot League championship preparation, which begin in three weeks on Feb. 23 at Navy.
