Lafayette Competes at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Lafayette swimming and diving teams competed at the Bison Invitational on Saturday, their final meet before the Patriot League Championships later in the month.

"The team was really excited for our rested swimmers to swim this well. It will take a lot of the pressure off and increase the confidence in the swimmers attending Patriot League Championships," said Lafayette head coach Jim Dailey. "We have a great chance to break our school records in multiple events. It's just a matter of staying true to the journey and getting excited about the potential outcomes." "All in all, there were 22 improvements in the women's top five and 29 in the men's top five. Our next event is the finale - Patriot League Championships at the same pool."

Senior Christina Brownwon the 400-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 4:40.50. She was the Leopards' lone event winner at the meet for which no team scoring was kept.

In the relay events, the Lafayette women finished third in the 200 free relay. Kelsey Theriault, Lauren Berry, Kate Durkan and Megan Kaveneyswam a time of 1:40.82. Durkan also placed fifth in the 200 IM (2:14.13).

For the Lafayette men in the relays, Ryan Himmelwright, James Kugel, Stephen Schappert and Scott Bradleytook third in the 200 free relay in 1:39.99.

The 200 medley relay of Evan Newbold, Greg Grewal, Josh Hitchings and Robert Lowery placed fourth in 1:39.31.

Individually, Robert Pollastroended in fourth place (4:21.26) in the 400 IM, two places ahead of Thomas St.Vincent (4:26.38).

In the 1650 freestyle, Matt Jouny (17:02.39) and Ben Zajic (17:31.18) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the men's diving events, Todd Leone, took home fourth in the one-meter with a score of 258.3 (six tenths out of third) and fourth in the three-meter event (243.55).

The Leopards will have two weeks to prepare for the Patriot League championships Feb. 21-23 hosted by Bucknell.
