Fencing Resumes MACFA Play at Drew University

MADISON, N.J. - The Lafayette fencing team posted a 4-3 record on Sunday at Drew University. The men's squad went 2-3 in MACFA play, while the women were 2-0 against NJIT and Rutgers. The Leopards improve to 17-10 in the 2011-12 season. Foil was Lafayette's strongest school overall at 67-23. The men's foilists combined for a 26-19 mark, led by a 10-5 tally from Phillip Manna and an 8-4 record by Zachary Roberts. Andre Rafizadeh, an all-region épéeist, stepped in for Roberts in the Leopards' final meet and went 2-1. Jeremy Martin-Mills wrapped up the school at 6-9. Alexandra Knobel led the women's foil with a 5-1 record. Jane Liu improved to 31-5 on the season with a 4-2 mark, and Makenzie Danis went 1-1. Men's épée was headed by Everett Glenn, who posted a 12-3 record. Rafizadeh was 5-4, captain Noah Weiner went 6-3 and Daniel Robitzski carded a 5-7 tally Colleen Way finished 5-1 to lead the women's epeeists. Caitlin Altomare was an even 3-3 and Allison Reich finished 2-4. Eric Luby led the men's sabre at 10-5, while Darrell Washington finished 9-6. Jillian Rosamilia was perfect at 6-0 in women's sabre. Bridget Greeley (5-1) and Leah Hayden (4-2) also owned winning records as the Leopards' female sabreurs finished the day at 15-3. The men's squad defeated Hunter (22-5) and Yeshiva (19-8) and fell to NJIT (17-10), Army (18-9) and Stevens Tech (15-12). The women were victorious against NJIT (15-12) and Rutgers (20-7). Fencing comes to Easton on Saturday, Feb. 25 as the Leopards host Drew University at 11 a.m. in Kamine Gymnasium. The MACFA Championships will be held on Sunday, March 4.
