HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Lafayette fencing team kicked off its 2010-11 campaign in solid fashion on Saturday, claiming three victories in five meets at Haverford. The Leopards swept Florida in men's and women's meets and downed William & Mary in a combined meet, while both the men's and women's teams lost to the host Fords.

After falling to Haverford by a 23-4 tally to open the day, the Lafayette men's fencers bounced back with a 14-13 ousting of the Gators. The win was fueled by a 6-3 advantage in épée.

The women's team also rebounded from an opening loss to the hosts, dropping a 19-8 decision to the Fords in Round 1. Led by a 9-0 sweep by foilists Lisa DeJoseph, Alexandra Knobel and Jane Liu, the Leopards took a 17-10 victory over Florida in the second round of action.

The day concluded with a combined meet, as the men's and women's fencers teamed up to challenge William & Mary. Épéeist David Eckelmann and sabreuse Jillian Rosamilia both went 3-0 against the Tribe as Lafayette capped its outing with a 16-11 win.
