Fencing Splits 10 Matches at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Lafayette fencing team began its MACFA season on Saturday at Haverford College. The Leopards were victorious in five of 10 matches, led by a 59-31 aggregate record in the foil.
Foilist Jane Liu posted a 13-2 record, while Lisa DeJoseph also tallied 13 individual wins. Alexandra Knobel contributed 11 victories in the school. Zachary Roberts (8-1), Phillip Manna (8-7) and Jeremy Martin-Mills (6-9) also competed in foil.
Bridget Greeley tallied a team-high 12 wins in sabre, while Eric Luby posted a solid 10-5 record on the afternoon. Makenzie Danis (8-10), Connor McNamara (3-6) and Leah Hayden (2-19) rounded out the Leopards' stable of sabreurs.
In épée, Everett Glenn was a perfect 9-0 to lead Lafayette in the school. Andre Rafizadeh, a 2011 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Finalist, and Noah Weiner each went 6-3 on the afternoon. Also fencing were épéeists Colleen Way (6-9), David Eckelmann (5-4), Daniel Robitzski (4-5) and Caitlin Altomare (3-12).
The Leopards started the day with three wins, sweeping Virginia and taking one of two matches against William & Mary. Lafayette also won on both the men's and women's sides against Maryland before falling to host Haverford and Johns Hopkins to complete the event at 5-5.
Greeley, DeJoseph, Hayden, Danis and Knobel all competed in the men's division for the Leopards in addition to the women's events.
