EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette fencing team hosted its 2012 meet on Sunday afternoon, winning four of its 10 matches, as the men and women each went 2-3 on the day.
Senior Lisa DeJoseph and sophomore Makenzie Danis led the way for the Leopard women, winning 13 of their 15 bouts in the foil. Sophomore foil Colleen Way, sophomore epee Allison Reich, junior epee and foil Alexandra Knobel and sophomore sabre Leah Hayden also finished the day with winning records as Way, Reich and Hayden went 9-6 and Knobel went 9-3 in the epee and 2-1 in the foil.
For the men, senior sabre Darrell Washington and freshman epee David Jennings won 12 of their 15 matches. Senior epee David Eckelmann and sophomore foil Phillip Manna went 11-4 on the afternoon. Additionally, sophomore foil Timothy Gaziano and classmate epee Daniel Robitzski finished with 10-5 marks, while sophomore foil Jeremy Martin-Mills went 9-6 on the afternoon.
The Leopard men were able to take care of Hunter and Yeshiva by 22-5 and 25-2 margins, respectively. The squad fell to Army, 13-14, SIT, 12-15 and NJIT, 13-14. As for the women, the Leopards traded the first four matches, falling to Rutgers (11-16) and NJIT (13-14) and defeating Yeshiva (22-5) and Drew (18-9). In the final round, Army took care of the Leopards by a 12-15 score.
The women's team will compete in the NIWFA Christmas Tournament on Dec. 2, while the men are back in action on Feb. 10 as they travel to Baltimore, Md. to take on Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Virginia and William & Mary.
