Fencing Splits Six Matches at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Lafayette fencing program competed at the MACFA `A' Round Robin on Saturday. The men defeated Drew University (18-9) and the Cornell club team (15-12) but were not able to edge out close matches against Haverford and the Rutgers' club team.
The men lost in heartbreaking fashion, losing by one bout to Rutgers and by two bouts to Haverford. Of the 28 bouts that the men competed in decided by one touch, they won eight of them.
Sabre freshman Jake Burns led the way, going 10-2 overall on the day and improved to 22-8 overall on the season. Sophomore David Jennings also had a strong showing, finishing 9-3 at the event. He improved his overall record to 19-11 this season.
For the women, they were able to split two matches, winning against Drew (14-8) and losing to Haverford (21-6). Senior Alexandra Knobel and foil freshman Julia Sheng improved their records to 15-7 on the year.
Competition continues for the fencers on Dec. 8 when they take part in the NIWFA Christmas Invitational in New Brunswick, N.J.
