Fencing Takes Part in MACFA Championships

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men’s fencing team traveled to the University of Maryland over the weekend for the MACFA Championships, finishing seventh out of 14 teams.
Epee was the weapon of choice for the Leopards as that squad came in fifth place, boasting two top-four finishes. Sophomore Daniel Robitzski was the best out of the group, taking third in the ‘C’ division, while senior Andre Rafizadeh missed out on advancing to the individual finals on tie-break indicators, taking fourth in the ‘B’ division. Additionally, senior David Eckelmann took 12th in the “A” division.
As for the foil, the team finished seventh overall with sophomore Jeremy Martin-Mills topping the team with a fifth-place spot in the ‘C’ division. Sophomore Phillip Manna took eighth in the ‘A’ division, while sophomore Timothy Gaziano was 10th in the ‘B’ division.
Finally, senior Darrell Washington was the only Leopard to advance to the individual finals in the sabre, finishing fourth in the ‘A’ divisional round and taking sixth overall in the event. Junior Eric Luby held the seventh spot in the ‘B’ division and senior Paul Dobrowsky rounded out the squad with an eighth-place mark in the ‘C’ division.
The Leopards are back in action on Saturday as they host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships in Easton
