After a two-week hiatus, the Lafayette men’s and women’s fencing teams resumed action at the MACFA A vs. C held at the Simon Forum on the campus of Drew University on Sunday afternoon.

The men dropped their first three matches against Haverford, Maryland and John’s Hopkins, but then bounced back to defeat William & Mary 21-6 before capping off the day-long fencing event with a 14-13 loss to Navy.

The Sabres dominated the opposition for the Maroon and White, going 29-19, including a perfect 9-0 rout of William & Mary and an 8-1 win over Navy. Junior Alex Gorloff sat out the first two matches, but began his day against John’s Hopkins and went a flawless 9-0 the rest of the way. Freshman Ian Miller also performed well on the strip, going 11-4, including a pair of sweeps against William & Mary and Navy.

In Foil, Andrew Mange found the most success on the strip, finishing the day at 7-8. After getting swept to start the afternoon, the sophomore claimed a pair of wins in three of the team’s final four matches. Conrad Stoerker led the way in Epee with a 7-8 mark, which included a 3-0 sweep against William & Mary.

The women were unable to capture a match victory at the MACFA A vs. C, but there were several strong individual performances.

Victoria Sheng was the lone foil to compete for the Leopards and she excelled on the strip, going 3-0 in matches against Maryland, William & Mary and Navy, while also grabbing a pair of bout victories over John’s Hopkins. She went 12-6 on the day.
