Lafayette Fencing Edges Host School at NJIT Invitational

NEWARK, N.J. - Lafayette fencing defeated the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sunday at the NJIT Invitational in Newark, N.J. The Leopards edged the Highlanders 15-12 to end the day with a victory after dropping the first five competitions against Stevens Institute of Technology, Hunter College, Johns Hopkins, Yeshiva and William & Mary. Junior captain Luigi Camilleri went 13-5 on the day in sabre, with perfect records against SIT, Hunter and NJIT. Hunter recorded just five touches against Camilleri and SIT was only able to score seven. In addition to Camilleri, sophomore sabre Andy Barnousky had a winning record as well (5-2), going unbeaten against NJIT and winning bouts against Hunter and Yeshiva. Sophomore epee Banks Clark tallied a 9-9 mark by sweeping his opponents from Yeshiva and NJIT. He also won two bouts against SIT and a single bout over Hunter College. Senior foil Mike Zboray had the best record among the Leopards in the weapon, ending the day 6-12. He captured two bouts each against Yeshiva and NJIT and had single wins against SIT and Hunter College. Sophomore Alexander Struck also had success Yeshiva, going a perfect 3-0 over the Maccabees. Lafayette concludes its season on Feb. 24 when the Leopards travel to West Point, N.Y. for the MACFA Championships.
