Fencing Falls at Cornell Invitational
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lafayette fencing team competed at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday Afternoon in the Stifel Fencing Salle on the campus of Cornell University.
The afternoon began for the Leopards with a match against host Cornell. Alex Gorloff, Ian Miller and Brent Staples led the Leopards in saber after they each claimed a pair of bout victories over the Big Red.
The men returned to the strip to take on Carnegie Mellon, where they eventually fell after failing to claim enough bout victories in both epee and foil. However, once again the sabers showcased their talents, claiming all nine bouts against the Tartans.
The women squared off against Wellesley and Costanza Davis picked up a single bout victory in epee. The afternoon came to a close for the women after they were defeated by Carnegie Mellon. Against the Tartans, the Leopards took four bout victories in epee after Sara Mikovic and Davis each picked up a pair of bout wins.
The Leopards will return to the strip on Sunday, Feb. 12 when they head to Madison, N.J. to take part in the MACFA A vs. C.
