Senior Jack Detmer and junior Seth Hinrichs will step into leadership roles for the 2013-14 season after the departure of Tony Johnson and Levi Giese, who held the captaincy last season. The all-time winningest coach in Lafayette and Patriot League history and longest-tenured coach in the conference, Fran O'Hanlon (Villanova, '70) enters his 19th season as the Leopards' head coach.
Lafayette finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 19-15 overall record and a 10-4 mark in Patriot League play that earned the Leopards the number-two seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The team advanced to the Patriot League championship game for the third time in four years after reeling off seven consecutive victories going into the game at Bucknell. The Bison came away with the victory and NCAA Tournament berth, but it was Lafayette's run that Leopard fans won't soon forget. Led by point guard Tony Johnson, the Leopards were spectacular at home, winning 14 of their 17 games at Kirby Sports Center, including a 79-71 win over Lehigh in the tournament semifinal to complete a season sweep against the Mountain Hawks. Johnson was a First Team All-Patriot League selection and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with Seth Hinrichs, who garnered Second-Team status. Bryce Scott earned a spot on the Patriot League's All-Rookie team.
