LAFAYETTE, La. – In the nightcap of Saturday's Louisiana Classics action, No. 20 Louisiana notched a 6-0 final over Lafayette softball
.
Â
The hosts scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings at Lamson Park.
Â
Leopard starter
Jacqueline Cal and the defense kept the game scoreless through the first three innings. The Ragin' Cajuns initially reached Cal in the top of the fourth, as Karly Heath belted a two-run home run.
Â
Louisiana added two in the fifth off Lafayette reliever
Kailee Sawai on a fielder's choice and a single. When the top of the seventh inning rolled around, Lauren Allred connected for a two-run home run to right field to push the advantage to 6-0.
Â
Lafayette had trouble getting the bats going against Louisiana starter Kandra Lamb who took a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh. Leopard senior
Kaili Reitano spoiled that bid by ripping a 1-1 pitch to right center for a single. That hit chased Lamb from the game in favor of Tyler Oubre.
Â
An error put two Leopard baserunners on with no outs, but Oubre struck out the next three batters on 12 pitches to end the game. Lamb garnered the win, striking out 12 over six innings. Cal allowed two runs on four hits over three innings in the circle decision for the Leopards. Sawai gave up four runs on five hits over with four K's in four innings.
Â
Lafayette will close out the tournament on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. CT, facing Stephen F. Austin.
