Maroon Club

From the President of the Maroon Club, Cindy Linville '80

Dear Loyal Leopards,

Maroon Club President Cynthia Oaks Linville '80 P'13 escorts her father, Dr. Wilbur Oaks '51, onto the Oaks Stadium field as Lafayette celebrates its centennial season of men's soccer.

It’s been a terrific year to be part of the Maroon Club, and I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as your President! The Maroon Club, once again, marked a very successful fundraising year in 2014, with 1,910 donors contributing over $1.2 million dollars. It is remarkable to witness the commitment, loyalty, and generous support that our alumni, parents, and friends have for Lafayette athletics.

The Maroon Club raises money that directly impacts all 23 of our Division I varsity sports. We continue to partner with the Development Office to provide supplemental funding that supports the four cornerstones of the Maroon Club: Education (including the Maroon Club Career Development Series, Coaches Lecture Series, and Oaks Leadership Academy), Alumni and Student Outreach (including the Hall of Fame Induction events and biannual golf outings), Common Support Programs (which includes the strength and conditioning program and student-athlete transportation), and Marketing and Promotion (which includes the Lafayette Sports Network and GoLeopards.com). Gifts to the Maroon Club can also be designated to a specific sport. Our many Friends groups are an important part of the awareness and fundraising process promoting specific needs for individual sports.

We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of our talented student-athletes. Highlights from the past year include football’s seventh Patriot League Championship as well as three individual Patriot League Champions (Stephanie Benko, 3,000m steeplechase; Elise Buffinton, pole vault; and Rachel Pena, who won the weight throw title at the indoor championships and the hammer title at the outdoor championships). I am also pleased to report that Lafayette student-athletes were recognized with a total of 32 All-Patriot League selections, 20 Academic All-Patriot League selections, 256 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections, and one Patriot League All-Rookie selection during the 2013-14 academic year.

Preparations are well underway for the historic 150th Lafayette-Lehigh football game that will be played at Yankee Stadium this November. Together with Lehigh, we have sold over 45,000 tickets. For the most current information about Rivalry 150 events and programs visit Celebrate Lafayette in NYC. I’d also like to encourage you to get involved by posting your stories, photos or videos through the special My Rivalry section, and use #MyRivalry on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The best stories will be featured as we count down to Rivalry 150!

Thank you for your continued support of the Maroon Club and your investment in our student-athletes and their championship experience. Your gift "Makes the Difference!" Together we can enable Lafayette's student-athletes to compete at the highest level in sports and in the classroom. We are gearing up for an especially exciting year for Lafayette athletics, and I hope to see you on the sidelines in your maroon and white cheering on our Leopards. GO PARDS!
