George L. Bright is in his 23rd year at Lafayette, and his 15th as Associate Director of Athletics. He arrived at the College in July of 1993 and served as an Assistant Director of Athletics for nine years.

Bright's primary areas of leadership at Lafayette are athletic administration, facilities management, event management, operations management. He is also responsible for the management of all practices and competitive events. He is the immediate administrative liaison for baseball, volleyball, golf, softball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis.

Bright has played an integral role in the planning and construction phases of Lafayette's $23 million transformation of Fisher Stadium. He also assisted in the $36 million construction and renovation of Allan P. Kirby Sports Center, and several of the significant improvements at the College's Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex. A synthetic turf field for field hockey and lacrosse has been built, along with new baseball, softball, soccer and track facilities for Lafayette's student-athletes. Bright coordinates and supervises Lafayette's summer camps and preseason team camps, as well as the logistics for internal support areas, and the scheduling of outside events.

During the summer of 2001, Bright was one of 24 athletic administrators selected nationally as the first class for the NCAA Leadership Institute. Bright has completed the Sports Management Institute Executive Program at Notre Dame and the University of South Carolina. He is also a former member of the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee (MOIC).

Prior to arriving at Lafayette, Bright served as the ticket office manager at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., since 1988. Bright planned, developed and managed the ticket office systems, operations and fiscal matters at South Carolina State, and performed promotional and marketing duties within the athletic department.

In 1990, while continuing his duties as ticket office manager, Bright received a presidential appointment at SCSU as executive director of the S.T.A.T.E. Club, the University's athletic booster club. Bright's management resulted in increased giving and additional athletic scholarship funds. Bright also played a key role in the development of the Palmetto Football Classic and served on several committees while at South Carolina State.

A 1985 graduate of Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., Bright earned a bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts, and earned his master of arts degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from South Carolina State in May 1993. He has hours towards his doctorate in leadership and administration at East Stroudsburg University.

In the Easton community, Bright has served as president of the Easton Area School Board and is the former Chairman of the Northampton County Drug and Alcohol Commission. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Easton Area Boys and Girls Club, the Easton Planning Commission and the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20.

Bright has received several commendations, most recently honored in 2010 by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for Outstanding Community Service in the Easton area, in 2011 with Lafayette's prestigious Administrator of the Year Award and in 2012 with Lafayette's Student -Advocate Staff award.

Bright and his wife, Sharon, reside on College Hill and have two adult children, George II and Tara. George II, a Naval Academy grad, is a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Tara, who attended East Carolina University as an undergrad and Syracuse University for law school, is an attorney in New York City.
