EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette cheerleading program is sponsoring an event for cheerleading teams of all ages and competitive levels to raise funds to benefit the Lauren's First and Goal Foundation which supports pediatric brain tumor research.
The event is a celebration of cheerleading that will take place on Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. in the Kirby Sports Center at Lafayette College. Teams will be able to perform for their friends and family and compete with other teams at their level while raising funds for the Lauren's First and Goal Foundation.
Lauren's First and Goal is a charitable organization created to raise funds to support pediatric brain tumor research. The organization is named in honor of Lauren Loose, a 10-year old daughter of Lafayette defensive coordinator John Loose who has suffered from multiple brain tumors. The charity is primarily supported by Lauren's First and Goal Football Camp, a one-day instructional clinic taught by college football coaches from across the country. Over 1,400 players and 230 volunteer coaches have helped to raise $125,000 for Lauren's First and Goal Foundation.
Teams may enter with a minimum $5 donation per participant, although they are encouraged to donate additional funds. In addition to awards that are given to teams who choose to compete within their division level, there will be prizes for the teams that raise the most support. Additional contests, including a jump-off and basket toss competition, will also take place at the event.
All cheerleaders will be taught a cheer for Lauren to be performed at the conclusion of the event along with the Lafayette cheerleaders and the Lafayette Leopard. The coaches and cheerleaders will also be given the opportunity to participate in the check ceremony.
The registration deadline for teams is Jan. 15, 2008. Tickets can be purchased at the door ($5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children under 13) or in advance at the Lafayette Athletic Ticket Office.
