Lafayette Fan Wilmer Bonney Passes Away at 76

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Wilmer Carl Bonney, 76, of Phillipsburg, a major fan of Lafayette athletics, died Saturday, Sept. 2 in Easton Hospital.

Bonney attended Lafayette sporting events for many years and was a fixture at football games at Fisher Field and basketball games at Kirby Sports Center.

Bonney was born May 13, 1930 in Pen Argyl. He was employed as a cook at the Hotel Easton for 25 years and served with the Army during the Korean War. His wife, the former Mary Van Syckle, died in 2002.

He is survived by two daughters, Wendy and Ruth, both of Phillipsburg; two sisters, Maida of Easton, and Kathleen of Phillipsburg; and two grandchildren, James Smith and Tiffanie Gellock.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Finegan Funeral Home, located at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home, and internment will be private.

Donations for the family may be made in care of the funeral home.
