EASTON, Pa. - Former Lafayette women's basketball standout Beth Mowins '89 will assume responsibilities as a college football play-by-play announcer on ESPN2 in the upcoming fall season.
Mowins will be on the call on ESPN2 for Saturday noon contests, primarily providing play-by-play for Big Ten Conference contests. Her first assignment is slated to be either Akron at Ohio State or Utah State at defending BCS Champion Auburn on Sept. 3.
Mowins, who will team with former Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti on ESPN2, has called college football games for various ESPN networks since 2005, when she became just the second woman to announce football games regularly on national television. Since 1994, her on-air duties at ESPN have ranged well beyond the gridiron. Mowins' most recent assignment was as a play-by-play announcer for the group stage of the Women's World Cup in Germany.
A Maroon Club Hall of Fame member and two-year team captain of the Leopards, Mowins scored 1,156 points for the Maroon and White and is the program's all-time leader with 715 career assists. After graduating from Lafayette with a degree in English in 1989, she earned a Master's Degree from Syracuse University in 1990.
