Two Lafayette Student-Athletes Receive Academic Awards at Commencement Ceremony

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette senior student-athletes Jen Bayer (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) and Andrew Rogers (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) each received distinguished honors from their respective academic departments at the 2003 Commencement on Saturday.

Bayer, a four-year letterwinner for the women's basketball team, garnered the Joseph Watt Kuebler Jr. Memorial Prize presented to the senior biology major who has the highest scholastic average and will be entering medical school. The 6-1 center was a mainstay for the Leopards in the paint throughout her four-year career. Bayer is one of only seven Leopards to record over 900 points and 600 rebounds in her career. She will be attending medical school at Indiana University in the fall.

Rogers earned the Mechanical Engineering Design Award presented to the senior mechanical engineering student with the most outstanding capstone design project. Rogers competed in the middle distance events for the Lafayette track and field squad. He graduates as a two-time letterwinner in the outdoor season.
