May 16, 2005

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette College student-athletes placed in the 80th to 90th percentile in the NCAA's latest release of the Academic Progress Rate (APR).

Lafayette checked in with an Academic Progress Rate score of 981 out of a possible 1000 points and 31 points above the national Division I average of 950. Lafayette ranked third within the Patriot League placing behind Navy (990) and Holy Cross (987) while tying Colgate at 981 and finishing ahead of Bucknell (980), Army (974), Lehigh (971) and American (963). Fourteen of Lafayette's 23 Division I sports achieved a score of 1000.

The Academic Progress Rate was designed to be an academic measurement for sports teams and was recently implemented by the NCAA and its member institutions to "improve the academic success and graduation of all student-athletes."

The NCAA released its initial APR data in February, but institutions had through March to submit corrected information in this, the first year of the reporting process.
