BUIES CREEK, N.C. (www.lafayette.edu) - Fresh off a 1-1 split doubleheader at North Carolina A&T, the Lafayette softball team dropped two games to Campbell, 0-19, 1-6, on Wednesday.
Campbell (18-8) scored 14 runs in the first inning of the first game en route to the 19-0 victory. Lafayette freshman pitcher Danielle Fecsoo, who came in relief in the first inning, was replaced with sophomore Kathy Vassos late in the third inning but the Leopards could not recover.
Heather Danchak went 1-for-1, Laura Schrager was 1-for-3 and Megan Longo was 1-for-2 on the game.
Lafayette (1-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game as Schrager scored on a double by Becky Chmielowski. But Campbell came back to score two runs in the third and added four more insurance runs over the next three innings.
Schrager went 1-for-3 in the loss while catcher Becky Foley went 1-for-2. Chmielowsi finished at 1-for-3 with the lone RBI for the Leopards. Freshman pitcher Amy Magos picked up the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits.
Lafayette continues its spring break trip at the George Mason Tournament in Fairfax, Va., this weekend. The Leopards will face off against St. Francis (Pa.), Long Island, Coppin State, Seton Hall and GMU at the three-day event.
